Fontainebleau has been the site of both beauty and tragedy. You can read more about the park and it's past here as well as the peoples of this region here. The Tchefuncte People are generally as the earliest people of this land, dating from 500 BC. Other indigenous peoples followed: The Marksville Culture ( AD 1-400) and later the tribes of the Acolapissa and the Choctaw. Here is the story of the people who experienced slavery on this land.
